Old Fashioned - Photo Hunt

Well you don't get much more Old Fashioned than My Mummy's Family Coat of Arms. It was granted to one of her very early relatives by King James - with was many squillion years ago!

The fishy on the top is actually supposed to be a dolphin over water - this is because the family didn't originate in England, but came here from Italy in the late 1500's. With a name like Caesar I'm told it's pretty easy to trace the family back to the first member to come to this Country - he was a physician and the father of the man awarded this coat of arms. Being a physician also makes him an easy person to trace as there has been a roll recording the names of physicians in this country going back even further than the late 1500's.

This coat of arms hangs over the fireplace at My Mummy's Grandma's house in the New Forest, along with a lot of other very old fashioned but interesting prints of a famous cricket player who was also a family member. He played on the second English Cricket tour of Australia - and they won! :)

That's fabulous! I bet the name Caesar could be traced back even further - to a Roman Emperor maybe. There must be some connection, I would have thought. That's so exciting:) xxx

Oh we trace back to Italy all right, and supposedly to the female line from the dukes de Cesarini in Italy, but there is as far as we know no blood ties to any Roman Emperors. The surname Caesar came about as a result of the Anglicizing of his name officially, following the fashion that Queens Mary and Elizabeth had for calling his father their Doctor Giaus Julius Adelmare, Dr Caesar!

Oh and I'z very pleased you'z liked the coat of arms Prinnie - though I'z quite sure it'd be more appealing iffen it had a tuna fish on top rather than a dolphin! ;)

Wow - that is so cool...that's like your mommy has a pedigree or something!

I wish my mommy had something like that, but mommy said our gpa can trace our family back squillions and squillions of years. He said they were successful farmers once upon a very long time.
